News Update : 03-JAN-26

Since the last news update, we have:

a) Continued with our twice monthly litter picks :

4 volunteers met at Bank Square on Wednesday 03-DEC-25. We covered the town centre collecting 9 bags (including some recyclables) plus some debris.

Despite the dismal weather, 2 volunteers met at Summerfields on Saturday 06-DEC-25. We covered the surrounding area collecting 5 bags.

b) Continued with our solo picks.

c) Discussed the possibility of the fire brigade joining one of our February picks

d) Been very pleased to assist Gareth who is volunteering with us, for 3 months, as part of the Duke of Edinburgh scheme.  He has completed his first session and is doing a great job.

e) Liaised with Cheshire East regarding some fly tipped rubbish.

f) Continued planning our AGM.

g) Confirmed that the final bag count for 2025 was 351. More information is available on the “Statistics” page on the website

News Update : 01-NOV-25

Since the last news update, we have:

a) Continued with our twice monthly litter picks :

3 volunteers met at Bank Square on Wednesday 01-OCT-25. We collected 5 bags plus some recyclables that were taken home and put in the silver bin. We were disappointed by the upkeep of the area outside Tesco Express on Green Lane – rubbish was spilling out of their commercial bins all over the ground. We will add this as an agenda item at the next committee meeting.

2 volunteers braved the very wet and windy weather and met at Lacey Green Park on Saturday 04-OCT-25 (storm Amy). 3 bags were collected before giving in to the weather.

b) Continued with our solo picks.

c) Responded to a contact made by the community engagement manager from Brsk (the internet service provider). They are looking to provide support which might be equipment and/or volunteers.

d) Emailed Waitrose to find out if/how we can benefit from the recently re-introduced “Green Token” scheme.

e) Investigated alternative ways of communicating with our members.

News Update : 28-SEP-25

Since the last news update, we have:

a) Continued with our twice monthly litter picks :

4 volunteers met at Summerfields on Wednesday 03-SEP-25. We collected 4 bags. We were very pleased to welcome 2 new volunteers.

We also held a scheduled pick at The King’s Arms on Saturday 06-SEP-25.

b) Continued with our solo picks.

c) Reported some fly tipping incidents to Cheshire East.

News Update : 30-AUG-25

Since the last news update, we have:

a) Continued with our twice monthly litter picks :

4 volunteers met at The Honey Bee on Wednesday 06-AUG-25. We collected 7 bags plus one bag of recyclables.

8 volunteers, including 2 youngsters, met at Bank Square on Saturday 09-AUG-25. We collected 11 bags of litter and one bag of recyclables. We covered the town centre and part of Knutsford Road.

b) Continued with our solo picks.

c) Responded to a query from “MultiRealm” – a company whose head office is in Wilmslow. They are organising litter picks for their teams across the country on 15-SEP-25 (to coincide with World Cleanup Day). We will be lending them our equipment for their Wilmslow pick.

d) Responded to a complaint from an Alderley Edge resident who was disappointed by the rubbish he saw on Parkway on a visit to Wilmslow. We went along to do a solo pick but it wasn’t as bad as we were expecting – which made sense considering we were out and about on a scheduled pick in the town centre only a few days earlier.

 

News Update : 02-MAR-25

Since the last news update, we have:

a) Continued with our twice monthly litter picks :

9 volunteers met at Bank Square on Wednesday 05-FEB-25. We covered the town centre, collecting 15 bags of litter and 1 bag of recyclables.

Wilmslow Clean Team 15 Bags Altrincham Road Airport Tunnels - 08-FEB-25A good turnout of volunteers met at The Honey Bee on Saturday 08-FEB-25. We were very pleased to welcome JD as a new volunteer. We collected at least 17 bags along Altrincham Road, the roundabout near the tunnels and the lanes near the hotel (near the entrance to Styal). The whole area was left looking so much tidier.

 

b) Continued with our solo picks

c) Held our AGM on 04-FEB-25. Our chairman Chris reviewed the year, our treasurer Stuart gave an overview of our financial position, and we discussed various topics including the possibility of buying/installing some “anti littering” signage (if we can obtain a suitable grant). It was also agreed that last year’s social evening in the King’s Arms was a success and that we will look at organising another one soon.

d) Arranged for ANSA to litter pick part of the A34 dual carriageway whilst one of the sections was coned off.

e) Closed our “X” (Twitter) account.

News Update : 01-FEB-25

Since the last news update, we have:

a) Continued with our twice monthly litter picks :

3 volunteers met at Lacey Green park on Saturday 04-JAN-25. We were pleased to welcome Ian as a new volunteer. We collected 3 bags.

Due to the wintry weather, no volunteers turned up at The King’s Arms on Saturday 08-JAN-25. This is completely understandable.  The committee will be discussing a better process for cancelling picks when we think that the weather is going to be bad.

b) Continued with our solo picks.  You are all doing a great job.  The bag count went up by 26 during January.

News Update : 28-DEC-24

Since the last news update, we have:

a) Continued with our twice monthly litter picks :

Litter picked by Wilmslow Clean Team Bank Square 4th December 20247 volunteers met at Bank Square on Wednesday 04-DEC-24. We were pleased to welcome 2 employees from “Pets At Home” to our pick. We covered town centre and collected at least 11 bags. We reported some damage to the flower beds in Bank Square to ANSA.

 

 

Fly tippping on southbound verge of A34 carriageway 7th December 2024

2 volunteers met at Summerfields on Saturday 07-DEC-24. We covered the surrounding area and collected 4 bags. We have also reported some fly tipping on the bypass to ANSA.

 

 

b) Continued with our solo picks.  You are all doing a great job.

c) Heard back from Tesco that our bid for funding via their “Stronger Starts” scheme had been unsuccessful.

d) Litter picked around the “Wilmslow Winter Wonderland” event, in the town centre, collecting at least 3 bags. Special thanks to Helen and Ian.

e) Continued the planning of the AGM which is going to be on Tuesday 04-FEB-25.  Further details will be sent out nearer the time.

 

News Update : 29-SEP-24

Since the last news update, we have:

a) Continued with our twice monthly litter picks :

11 volunteers met at Summerfields on Wednesday 04-SEP-24 including some volunteers from Wates Builders who are refurbishing the fire station. We covered the surrounding area collecting at least 11 bags.

9 volunteers met at The Farmers Arms (Chapel Lane) on Saturday 07-SEP-24.  We headed off to cover a wider area than normal including Altrincham Road, the town centre and the Alderley Road bypass roundabout.  This was because the immediate area had undergone a solo pick during the week. We collected 12 bags and some recyclables (which were taken to home and put in the silver bins)

b) Continued with our solo picks.

c) Explored a funding opportunity from Tesco.

d) Lent some equipment to “Praetura Group” (a financial services company with offices at Barons Court on Manchester road).  6 of their volunteers did a litter pick as part of “World Litter Day”.

e) Provided some bags to residents of Colshaw Farm.  Riverside now own Colshaw Farm estate and the land in the valley. Some volunteers are getting involved with a tidy up exercise. They are also in discussions with Riverside management to provide funds and resources to repair a footpath and a couple of footbridges in the valley.

f) Reported some fly tipped tyres to ANSA

 

News Update : 03-FEB-24

Since the last news update, we have:

a) Continued with our twice monthly litter picks :

Despite the drizzle, 4 volunteers met at The King’s Arms on Wednesday 3rd January. We covered the surrounding area and collected 8 bags.

The sun was out on Saturday 6th January. 8 volunteers met at Lindow Common. We collected 11 bags. 1 bag of recyclables was taken home and put in the grey bin. We covered the surrounding area including Chapel Lane.

b) Continued with our solo picks.

c) Held a very successful “10th Birthday” get together in the King’s Arms on Tuesday 30-JAN-24. At least 17 volunteers came along.  It was good to catch up with everyone and lovely to see some old faces. Many thanks to Stuart for organising.

d) Collected our new trolley – which we have named “The Howden Trolley” after the insurance company in the town centre (formerly A-Plan) that paid for it. We are very grateful for their support.

News Update : 02-DEC-23

Since the last news update, we have:

a) Continued with our twice monthly litter picks :

6 volunteers met at The Honey Bee on Wednesday 01-NOV-23. We covered Altrincham Road and the area near the airport tunnels. We collected at least 9 bags.  We were pleased to welcome 3 ladies from “Carefound Home Care” to this pick.

8 volunteers met at The Parish Hall on Saturday 04-NOV-23. We covered the Carrs, the surrounding area and the town centre. We collected 9 bags.

Thanks to everyone who participated.

c) Completed the move of our bank account from Barclays

d) Started to plan a get together for our 10th anniversary. We are currently considering meeting up in The Kings Arms one evening in January – probably a Monday or a Tuesday. More details will be sent out once the plans are confirmed.

e) Started to investigate a possible poster campaign (following up on a recent suggestion by Elaine)

f) Renewed our annual insurance.
