Litter Picking Event Summary – 3rd -> 6th December 2014

The first 2 of our December litter picking events have gone well – with at least 20 bags of litter collected.

7 volunteers met at the Kings Arms on Wednesday 3rd December.  2 volunteers concentrated on the grounds of the disused Remenham council offices (owned by Cheshire East Council until March next year) – particularly the boundary fence bordering Alderley Road where large quantities of litter had been dumped over the fence.  Various home made advertising boards that had also been thrown over the fence were also collected up.  The other 5 volunteers covered the surrounding roads including Albert Road, Victoria Road, Sainsbury’s car park and the hedge opposite the BP garage.

5 volunteers met at the Honey Bee, on a bright and frosty morning. on Saturday 5th December.  We covered Altrincham Road (between the airport tunnels and Nansmoss Lane) as well as Morley Green Road.  We collected a staggering amount of rubbish, over about a mile of road, considering we have done this area before.  A total of 15 bags of rubbish were collected. This has to be down to people throwing litter out of their vehicles.  In addition to the litter we also collected old road signs and vehicle parts.  It was interesting litter picking with a hard frost – a lot of the litter was frozen to the ground!  It was nice to welcome a new volunteer too.

Our next pick is on Saturday 20th December.

Litter Picking Event Summary – Thursday 16th October 2014

Wilmslow Clean Team Leisure Centre Pick 16 Oct 2014A good turn out on a lovely autumn day in support of the Keep Britain Tidy  “The Big Tidy Up” Campaign that is being held nationwide throughout October.

7 volunteers met at the Leisure Centre.  Most of our efforts were in the Leisure Centre grounds.  Some of the hedgerows were particularly bad although this may be because we haven’t tackled them before and were dealing with a build up of litter over a long period.  We also did some work on Station Road.

Some of the volunteers collected litter on their walk to and from the Leisure Centre.  This included Water Lane, Altrincham Road, Bourne Street and Alderley Road.

We even managed to get together for a mid morning break and enjoyed a coffee outside the Pickle Jar cafe (part of Wilmslow Leisure Centre). The problems we are up against as a team were typified by the behaviour of one of the employees from the Leisure Centre.  She came out of the cafe for a smoke and then threw her cigarette end on the floor just outside the cafe door – right in front of 6 gob-smacked litter pickers!

We collected about 12 bags of rubbish altogether.

Well done everyone!

Litter Picking Event Summary – Thursday 18th September 2014

5 volunteers turned up for the third of our litter picks scheduled for September 2014.

We met at the King’s Arms and the focus was on the surrounding area.

We tackled the King’s Arms roundabout, and some of the surrounding roads.

One of our volunteers headed off to tidy Prestbury Road.

Another volunteer tackled the roundabout where the A34 meets Alderley Road. There was a massive amount of litter in the public footpath that heads off into the fields, from the traffic lights on the A34, just north of this roundabout.  The photos show some before/after shots.  Some videos of this litter pick, on our YouTube channel, give a better illustration of our work.
