News Update : 01-NOV-26

Since the last news update, we have:

a) Continued with our monthly scheduled litter pick :

8 volunteers met at Bank Square on Saturday 03-OCT-26 and collected at least 10 bags (and some recyclables) in and around the town centre. We enjoyed a coffee in the sunshine outside Café Azul.  We were very happy to welcome the new volunteers and hope to see you again soon.

b) Continued with our solo picks:

Areas covered included Altrincham Road (including the area near Waters), Racecourse Road, Chapel Lane, Morley Green, Pinewoods Drive, Dean Row Road, Adlington Road, Wilmslow Park Road North, Browns Lane, Wilmslow Park South and the town centre.

Many thanks to everyone who did a solo pick this month especially Chris, Alan, Julie,  Liz, Ann, Gareth, Ian, Margaret and Heather (apologies if I have missed anyone out).

c)  Liaised with Hickory’s regarding them sending some staff to our November pick. Hickory’s have always been very supportive. They continue to provide sponsorship funding to help with our expenses – for which we are very grateful. They have also offered us complementary drinks after our schedule pick at Lindow Common on Saturday 03-APR-27.

d) Participated in a Cheshire East video call about recycling. Made a suggestion for having extra “recycling” bins alongside the existing litter bins.

e) Were delighted to have been successful in our request for funding from the “Manchester Airport Community Trust Fund”. We were awarded £1,350 and this will be used towards the purchase of an extra 30 more sets of equipment. We have enquired as to whether they would like to come and see us at one of our organised picks.

f) Started the application process for a grant for some further funding from Wilmslow Town Council.

g) Recovered some equipment from members who are no longer active.

h Received a request from a councillor regarding a proposal for setting up a monthly Lacey Green litter pick.

i)  Spoke to the Co-Op and got them to accept responsibility for emptying the (often overflowing) bin that they placed on the pavement.

j) Responded to an enquiry from Aurora Summerfields school.

News Update : 31-DEC-22

Since the last news update, we have:

a) Continued with our twice monthly litter picks :

5 volunteers met at Bank Square, on Wednesday 7th December, on a cold but sunny morning. We covered Bollin Link, the Station,  the Leisure Centre, the rail side path, the town centre, Hawthorn Lane and Prestbury Road – collecting at least 11 bags

Unfortunately, the snow meant that there was no litter pick on Saturday 10th December.

b) Continued with our solo picks.

c) Emailed our members with details of the “soft plastic” facilities available in Waitrose, Sainsbury’s and the Co-op

d) Emailed ANSA to explore whether their budget would stretch to the installation of CEC litter bin at the most easterly pedestrian entrance to Lindow Common

e) Collected a cheque for £300 from the Skipton Building Society office in Grove Street to help us with the funding of litter pick trolleys (more info below). These trolleys cost nearly £200 and so we really welcome this financial support from Skipton.

f) Sent thank you emails to our co-sponsors whose donations have also helped us purchase the first (of hopefully many) litter picking trolleys. The trolleys will allow us to collect more litter, divide recyclable items from the rubbish and leave us less tired after a litter pick as full bags with even a few bottles and cans get very heavy.

g) Updated the bag count totals on our Website.  The annual total for 2022 was 381 – bringing our total to date to 3994.  This is a fantastic achievement – well done everyone

Litter Picking Summary 7th + 10th November 2018

5 volunteers met at Bank Square on Wednesday 7th November. We spread out covering the town centre, Wilmslow Station and the area around the Leisure Centre.  We collected 6 bags.

We have identified a major litter ‘grot spot’ : the private area to the right hand side of the Co-op shop on Water Lane.  We think that this is an area where office workers are sitting on the wall to eat their lunch and/or have a smoke.  We are going to progress this issue further.

wilmslow clean team airport tunnels november 20185 people met at The Honey Bee on Saturday 10th November. We covered both sides of Altrincham Road between the Honey Bee and the Airport tunnels as well as part of Morley Green Road.  We also covered the lanes between the tunnels and the Holiday Inn. This is another major “grot spot” where take away wrappers and drinks bottles/cans are thrown into the bushes (making it hard to collect). We picked a total of 10 bags and one large sheet of metal.

Some of our volunteers have also been out on solo picks recently. At least 7 more bags were collected on Knutsford Road, the town centre, Morley Green Road, Altrincham Road and the side streets near Gorsey Bank School.

So – at least 23 bags collected since the October picks. Thanks and well done everyone.
