Since the last news update, we have:
a) Continued with our twice monthly litter picks :
4 volunteers met on Wednesday 01-APR-26 at the entrance to Lacey Green park. We were pleased to welcome a new volunteer (Alan). We covered the surrounding area and Browns Lane. We and collected 9 bags altogether.
6 volunteers met at Bank Square on Saturday 04-APR-26. We focussed on the town centre and collected 10 bags.
b) Continued with our solo picks. Areas covered include : Wilmslow Park, the path along the Bollin below the bypass, the long path from Trust Ford to Dean row shops, Summerfields, the path from Hazelwood to Adlington Road, Styal Road, Lacey Green Road, Barlow Road, Station Road, Alderley Road, Walpole Way, the Leisure Centre, Dean Row Road, Arlington Road, Wilmslow Park North, Fairford Way, Altrincham Road, Rectory Fields, Manchester Road, Mobberley Road, Morley Green Road, Butterfly Bank, Stockton Road, Knutsford Road and The Carrs.
Many thanks to everyone who did a solo pick – especially Chris E., Jonathon, Andy, Alex, Ian, Gareth, Helen, Liz, and Chris M. Apologies if I missed anyone !
d) Continued to support students doing litter picking for the voluntary section of their Duke of Edinburgh scheme.
e) Chris M. represented us at a conference of local litter picking groups in Sandbach on 11-APR-26. There were some interesting presentations (from Cheshire East & Keep Britan Tidy) and he made some useful contacts from other litter picking groups – e.g. Alderley In Bloom. One of the outcomes is that representatives from the Clean Team are hoping to join Lisa Maddock (Cheshire East) when she makes a presentation to Wilmslow High School.
f) Supported Jonathan who is kindly litter picking as part of his company’s scheme that allows him 2 days additional leave for voluntary work.
g) Liaised with a local Beaver Scout group who are looking to run a litter picking session.
h) Held a committee meeting where we decided to reduce the number of organised litter picks from 2 down to 1 each month (due to difficulties finding leaders and the increase in solo picks). A separate email with more details was sent out on 15-APR-26.
i) Reported some fly tipping, on the Jim Evison playing fields, to Cheshire East.
