News Update : 30-AUG-25

Since the last news update, we have:

a) Continued with our twice monthly litter picks :

4 volunteers met at The Honey Bee on Wednesday 06-AUG-25. We collected 7 bags plus one bag of recyclables.

8 volunteers, including 2 youngsters, met at Bank Square on Saturday 09-AUG-25. We collected 11 bags of litter and one bag of recyclables. We covered the town centre and part of Knutsford Road.

b) Continued with our solo picks.

c) Responded to a query from “MultiRealm” – a company whose head office is in Wilmslow. They are organising litter picks for their teams across the country on 15-SEP-25 (to coincide with World Cleanup Day). We will be lending them our equipment for their Wilmslow pick.

d) Responded to a complaint from an Alderley Edge resident who was disappointed by the rubbish he saw on Parkway on a visit to Wilmslow. We went along to do a solo pick but it wasn’t as bad as we were expecting – which made sense considering we were out and about on a scheduled pick in the town centre only a few days earlier.

 

News Update : 03-AUG-25

Since the last news update, we have:

a) Continued with our twice monthly litter picks :

3 volunteers met at Lacey Green Park on Wednesday 02-JUL-25. We covered the surrounding area collecting 3 bags.

8 volunteers met at The Kings Arms on Saturday 05-JUN-25.  We covered the surrounding area and collected at least 9 bags.

b) Continued with our solo picks.

c) Seen our bag total go over the 5,000 mark. An amazing achievement by our volunteer group. We have been up and running for nearly 12 years.

d) Continued liaison with the “Duke Of Edinburgh” scheme volunteers.

e) Sent an invoice, for the promised donation, for our litter picking assistance at the recent Wilmslow Music Festival

News Update : 29-JUN-25

Since the last news update, we have:

a) Continued with our twice monthly litter picks :

6 volunteers met at Summerfields on Wednesday 04-JUN-25. We covered the surrounding area collecting 7 bags and various car parts, carpets etc.

7 volunteers met at Bank Square on Saturday 07-JUN-25.  We covered the town centre and collected 12 bags.

b) Continued with our solo picks.

c) Attended the “Eco Club” after school event at Pownall Hall School on 09-JUN-25. We enjoyed talking to the pupils about our activities and found them to be fully engaged with environmental matters.

d) Lent some equipment to 4th Wilmslow Scout Group who did an excellent job collecting 6 bags of litter from Broadway Meadow carpark and the footpath adjacent to the railway lines (from the train station to the high school).

e) Received a donation of £300 towards our funds from Morgan Lovell. Whenever Howdens Insurance expand an office, they ask the successful contractor to donate to a charity / voluntary group. They chose us this time – for which we are very grateful.

f) Some of our volunteers litter picked at the Wilmslow Live Music Festival on 21-JUN-25 – for which we will be receiving a donation towards our funds.

g) Heard from Julie Dawn Potts who is getting Chapel Lane ready for the RHS “Britain In Bloom” judging on Thursday 17-JUL-25. She is planning a ‘Tidy Up’ afternoon on Sunday 13-JUL-25 for anyone who can help litter picking or weeding.  They are meeting outside Chelsea Flowers at 14:00 – everyone is very welcome. h) Liaised with another potential “Duke Of Edinburgh” scheme volunteer.

 

News Update : 01-JUN-25

Since the last news update, we have:

a) Continued with our twice monthly litter picks :

Unfortunately, we had to cancel the pick on Wednesday 07-MAY-25 due to unavailability of leaders.

5 volunteers met at The Honey Bee on Saturday 10-MAY-25.  We collected 9 bags and a damaged cone along Altrincham Road, from the airport tunnels through to Hickory’s Smokehouse.

b) Continued with our solo picks.

c) Had an enjoyable get together in the King’s Arms on Wednesday 14-MAY-25.

d) Congratulated Helen on receiving the Mayor’s Award for “Outstanding Contribution to Wilmslow” at this year’s Community Awards. Helen is involved in a lot of local groups and is a valued Clean Team committee member.

News Update : 03-MAY-25

Since the last news update, we have:

a) Continued with our twice monthly litter picks :

5 volunteers met at Lacey Green Park on Wednesday 02-APR-25.  We covered the surrounding area and collected 6 bags of rubbish.

7 volunteers met at the Parish Hall on Saturday 05-APR-25.  We covered the surrounding area and the town centre.

c) Received an email from Howden Insurance. The contractors working on their premises have, as part of the contract, committed to “One Good Thing” which is where they help with a local charity or organisation of the local branch being worked on. This is usually in the form of a donation. Howdens have chosen the Wilmslow Clean Team – which is great news for us.

d) Heard from Mike regarding the ability for local organisations to apply for un-paid help from local offenders.  Litter picking is one of the example activities. Chris will investigate this opportunity in due course :

News Update : 29-MAR-25

Since the last news update, we have:

a) Continued with our twice monthly litter picks :

7 volunteers met at The Farmer’s Arms on Wednesday 05-MAR-25. We collected at least 10 bags in the surrounding area.

10 volunteers met at Summerfields on Saturday 08-MAR-25. We collected at least 14 bags. The relatively low bag count, compared to the number of pickers, who covered a wide area, was because the area was remarkably clean!

b) Continued with our solo picks

c) Reported some fly tipping to ANSA

d) Continued support for Ted who is litter picking as part of the Duke Of Edinburgh scheme.

News Update : 02-MAR-25

Since the last news update, we have:

a) Continued with our twice monthly litter picks :

9 volunteers met at Bank Square on Wednesday 05-FEB-25. We covered the town centre, collecting 15 bags of litter and 1 bag of recyclables.

Wilmslow Clean Team 15 Bags Altrincham Road Airport Tunnels - 08-FEB-25A good turnout of volunteers met at The Honey Bee on Saturday 08-FEB-25. We were very pleased to welcome JD as a new volunteer. We collected at least 17 bags along Altrincham Road, the roundabout near the tunnels and the lanes near the hotel (near the entrance to Styal). The whole area was left looking so much tidier.

 

b) Continued with our solo picks

c) Held our AGM on 04-FEB-25. Our chairman Chris reviewed the year, our treasurer Stuart gave an overview of our financial position, and we discussed various topics including the possibility of buying/installing some “anti littering” signage (if we can obtain a suitable grant). It was also agreed that last year’s social evening in the King’s Arms was a success and that we will look at organising another one soon.

d) Arranged for ANSA to litter pick part of the A34 dual carriageway whilst one of the sections was coned off.

e) Closed our “X” (Twitter) account.

News Update : 01-FEB-25

Since the last news update, we have:

a) Continued with our twice monthly litter picks :

3 volunteers met at Lacey Green park on Saturday 04-JAN-25. We were pleased to welcome Ian as a new volunteer. We collected 3 bags.

Due to the wintry weather, no volunteers turned up at The King’s Arms on Saturday 08-JAN-25. This is completely understandable.  The committee will be discussing a better process for cancelling picks when we think that the weather is going to be bad.

b) Continued with our solo picks.  You are all doing a great job.  The bag count went up by 26 during January.

News Update : 28-DEC-24

Since the last news update, we have:

a) Continued with our twice monthly litter picks :

Litter picked by Wilmslow Clean Team Bank Square 4th December 20247 volunteers met at Bank Square on Wednesday 04-DEC-24. We were pleased to welcome 2 employees from “Pets At Home” to our pick. We covered town centre and collected at least 11 bags. We reported some damage to the flower beds in Bank Square to ANSA.

 

 

Fly tippping on southbound verge of A34 carriageway 7th December 2024

2 volunteers met at Summerfields on Saturday 07-DEC-24. We covered the surrounding area and collected 4 bags. We have also reported some fly tipping on the bypass to ANSA.

 

 

b) Continued with our solo picks.  You are all doing a great job.

c) Heard back from Tesco that our bid for funding via their “Stronger Starts” scheme had been unsuccessful.

d) Litter picked around the “Wilmslow Winter Wonderland” event, in the town centre, collecting at least 3 bags. Special thanks to Helen and Ian.

e) Continued the planning of the AGM which is going to be on Tuesday 04-FEB-25.  Further details will be sent out nearer the time.

 

News Update : 30-NOV-24

Since the last news update, we have:

a) Continued with our twice monthly litter picks :

7 volunteers met at The Honey Bee on Wednesday 06-NOV-24. We covered the roads in the vicinity of the pub with Chris Manley heading off to pick in Sainsbury’s car park. We collected 13 bags of rubbish plus some other larger items of debris.

On Saturday 09-NOV-24 we met at Lindow Common and picked the surrounding area, meeting for a coffee afterwards. A separate pick also covered Knutsford Road, Alderley Road and Beddels Lane. We collected at least 7 bags.

b) Continued with our solo picks.  You are all doing a great job.  We were particularly impressed by Lauren who collected 30 bags around Colshaw in October!

c) Contacted Waitrose about the possibility of contributing to our running costs in the new year.

d) Applied to the Tesco blue token scheme.

e) Offered help to keep the “Wilmslow Winter Wonderland” event clean.

f) Chatted to officers from the Bollin Valley Project which manages Lindow Common. They were removing some fly tipping from the car park. They passed on their thanks to the clean team for all our efforts.

g) Tried to find out more about “Butterfly Bank” – the wooded area from Stockton Road to Alderley Edge golf course – which is a litter hot spot since it became a magnet for BMX bike riders.

h) Saw a “thank you” post from “Wilmslow Town Council” on Facebook:
