Three volunteers from Wilmslow CleanTeam attended the Cheshire Show on 17th June 2014. We were supporting Cheshire East who were promoting the region as a great place to live. We spent time talking to visitors, promoting our work and picking up litter in the area around the stand.
Cheshire East donated £150 to the Clean Team in recognition of their help and support. This money will be very useful – e.g. for buying extra litter picking equipment.
Wilmslow CleanTeam have registered with a website called LitterAction. This is a nationwide organisation that is campaigning against litter. The website has a lot of useful information and advice as well as a register of litter picking groups in the UK.
Please take a look at the Wilmslow CleanTeam page on the LitterAction website.
Some representatives from Wilmslow Clean Team will be at the Cheshire Show on 17th June 2014. We will be on the Cheshire East stand which is inbetween the band stand and the main ring.
We are helping Cheshire East to promote the region as a great place to live and work.
It will be a good opportunity for us to promote the voluntary work that we do.
If you are attending the show then please come and find us – we would be pleased to tell you more about the Wilmslow Clean Team.
Another good effort. There were 6 volunteers and we collected about 10 bags of rubbish. We met at the Leisure Centre and picked up litter in the surrounding area. We also tidied up Station Road and some of Macclesfield Road.
Well done everyone!
Another good litter pick with 8 volunteers turning up. We met at Bank Square and then spread out in various directions. The area covered included Church Street, Manchester Road, Alderley Road, Knutsford Road, the car parks near Sainsbury’s, the library, Parkway, Water Lane, Altrincham Road and Prestbury Road. We collected about 12 bags of rubbish.
We are finding increasing numbers of small discarded laughing gas cylinders.
Concern was raised about the state of the shop frontage outside Tesco Express.
We were also shocked by the amount of litter found in the memorial gardens.
Wilmslow is aiming to do well in the 2014 Britain In Bloom competition. The judges will be in the town on Thursday 10th July. The judges will be interested in the quality of planting but the cleanliness of the town will also be taken into consideration.
Various organisations are involved in this competition – e.g. Wilmslow Town Council, Incredible Edible Wilmslow, Wilmslow Business Group.
Incredible Edible Wilmslow have asked the Clean Team to get involved. We are planning to do 2 litter picks along the judging route : one the day before and a final clean up on the judging day itself.
More information about the competition can be found on the Incredible Edible Wilmslow website and on wilmslow.co.uk.
We are pleased to announce the new logo for the Wilmslow Clean Team. The logo was kindly designed by Adam Richardson who is undertaking a university course in “Graphic Design and Advertising” at Fielden College, Manchester. Adam is working towards becoming a freelance graphic designer and has set up a blog of his work in preparation for his website. Click here to see Adam’s blog.
The Wilmslow Clean Team would like to thank Adam for all of his hard work and effort in designing the logo.
We are proud to have it on our website and will be using it in our publicity information going forward.
